Opening Hours FAQ

Hours, holidays, and last admission

Is the Musée d'Orsay open on Mondays?
No. Like many French national museums, the Musée d'Orsay is closed every Monday. The Louvre is closed Tuesdays — pair the two so you can visit both on consecutive days.
What time is the last admission?
The last timed slot is at 17:00 on standard days and 21:00 on Thursday late-night openings. Galleries close at 18:00 (or 21:45 on Thursdays).
Does every Thursday have the late-night opening?
Yes — the Thursday late opening to 21:45 runs year-round, except when Thursday falls on 25 December or 1 May. Check the official calendar before booking around major holidays.
Is the museum open on the first Sunday of the month?
Yes, with free entry for everyone — but you still need a timed slot. These dates are the busiest of the entire year; book at least two weeks in advance.
What about Christmas and New Year's Day?
Closed on 25 December. Open with standard hours on 26 December and on 1 January. New Year's Day is one of the busiest days of the year — book at least a week in advance.
Can I visit the bookshop without a museum ticket?
Yes — the museum bookshop just inside the main entrance is accessible without a ticket. Same hours as the galleries (09:30–18:00).
How long can I stay inside once I've entered?
As long as you like up to closing time. The timed slot only governs when you can enter, not how long you can stay.
